The South African Thalassaemia Association is an organisation that endeavours to improve the quality of life for all living with the hereditary blood disorder, Thalassaemia, and to create awareness of this disorder.
Thalassaemia is a form of anaemia, inherited genetically by children at birth, from both parents who carry the genes for this disorder. It affects mostly people of Indian descent in South Africa.
By creating awareness & interest in this condition, we hope to generate commitment, support, encouragement and motivation for our patients to endure the rigours of their condition so that they too can experience the joys of growing up, choosing careers and even having families of their own. Our mission is to:
'Improve the quality of life of all living with Thalassaemia by advocating better treatment, compliance, emotional and physical support, social integration and non discrimination.'
SATA expresses its most sincere appreciation for your patronage of this site, and welcome any feedback or queries.
